Origin
June 21 1800, Napoleon Bonaparte is traveling through Lyon and decides to erect more glamorous buildings on the square which from now on was called place Bonaparte, later place Napoleon. In 1825 the statue of king Louis XIV arrives. Later the square, with 62000 m2 the 3rd largest square in France, is renamed place Bellecour. And like other major squares in Europe, the square needs a prestigious Hotel.

The Hotel Royal was built from 1888 by the architect Prosper Perrin. You can add information here
Different Owners
The Hotel le Royal is independantly owned and enjoyes more caracter and individuality than other hotels mangaed by the French Hotel Chain Accor. For years the Hotel Royal was associated to the Hotel Label Sofitel from the Hotel Chain Accor. Since june 22 2008 The Hotel is associated to the Label M Gallery from the Hotel Chain Accor.

Decoration
The Hotel was redesigned by the decorator Pierre Yves Rochon.
