Origin

In 1671 the Pajot and the Rouille familly installed a postal service "La Poste aux Lettres" in the neighboring 34 rue des Bourdonnais. In 1690 was erected a new connecting Building on 9 rue des Dechargeurs which became the first Post Office in Paris. The service was assumed by the family which paid royalties to the King of France. In 1738 the family lost their rights for the postal service. For some time 9 rue des Dechargeurs keeps a post office called "la petite poste". (Today both buildings as well the connecting 17th century courtyard which can be seen from the Cremerie are protected as Historic Monuments).

In 1854 the area changed drastically with the creation of the rue des Halles by Baron Haussmann followed by the building of the Pavillon Baltard. The historic Building on 9 rue des Dechargeurs remained while the 11 rue des Dechargeurs was rebuilt.

Around 1870 was erected the Building 15 rue des Halles / 11 rue des Dechargeurs. The building was owned by Madame de Fresnes. On the ground floor were 3 commercial locations, one of them a small bistro, an other one a Cremerie (one of several Cremeries located on rue des Halles).

In the 1950 a junction was created between the 9 and the 11 rue des Dechargeurs, which explains why the actual location of the Cremerie de Paris goes back to both 1870 and 1690.

The Cremerie de Paris existed for over 100 years during the times of the Halles de Paris. It closed in the summer 1970, when it´s last occupant left for Rungis some months of the departure of the Paris Les Halles Food market. The location was then abandoned for 17 years during the long period of the "Trou des Halles" and beyond.

It reopened as a hi tech furniture store in 1986 and became the Boutique Electrica for Sony in 1993. On rue des Halles, which at the time was also called "rue Sony", existed 4 Sony stores. The stores were known for their ahead of their time website on the french Minitel system.

Cremerie and Luxury Hotel Industry

In 1997 following never ending problems with Sony the Boutique diversified into Telecom Services and also opened the first Internet Cafe in Paris, called Cybercafe de Paris. In 1997 it was difficult to find Internet access in France while American Tourist travelling to Paris were already used to Email and other Internet services. The Cybercafe de Paris operated 8 years until february 2005.

The Cremerie never intended to enter the World of Luxury Hotels, but Internet users coming to the location gave the Cybercafe the idea to register Internet Domain Names at a time many names were still available. In January 2000 was created the website "Phonebook of the World.com", which was followed by the Luxury Hotel Portal "Hotels of the World.com".

Due to it´s relation with Luxury Hotel´s the Cremerie is included in the Hotel History Wiki reserved to Hotels or People connected to Hotels

Hotels of the World.com

Hotels of the World.com is a portal for the World´s most exclusive luxury Hotels.

It was invented in the Cremerie de Paris (Cybercafe de Paris) and is still edited from rue des Halles.
