Origin
In 1853 the mayor of Cannes Marius Barbe decides to build a walkway along the coast. After some initial resistance the construction is voted January 14 1857. The walkway is official inaugurated march 14 mars 1863. In 1864 is build the first Hotel, l'Hôtel Gonnet, followed by the Grand Hôtel, the Cercle Nautique (later Palais des festivales) and about 15 villas. In 1866 the avenue is renamed Boulevard de l'Impératrice.
The ground of the Hotel Carlton was acquired in 2 steps, one part was non constructed, the other one occupied by the "Hotel de la Plage" owned by Madame Serraillier.
Opening of the Hotel
The Hotel Carlton in Cannes was built from 1909 to 1913 for Henri Ruhl. The architects were Charles Dalmas and Marcellin Mayère. You can add information here
