Origin

On the Pariser Platz in the center of Berlin was located the Palais Redern. Facing the Brandenburg Gate the Palais was a landmark constructed by the famous architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. This location was the dream spot for Lorenz Adlon to realize his dream to build a Grand Hotel. A dream which was made possible through the interferance of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II who wanted Berlin have a Grand Hotel able to match the glamour of the famous Paris and London Hotels.

Opening of the Hotel

The Hotel Adlon was built in 1907 and opened October 24. The architects were Carl Gause and Robert Leibnitz. You can add information here

End of the first Hotel Adlon

In the night from Octber 2 to October 3 1945 the Hotel burnt down. The circumstances of the fire are unclear. They were not due to Allied Bombing.

Re-Opening of the Hotel

Between 1995 and 1997 the Hotel was rebuilt under the architects Patzschke, Klotz & Partner. The building is owned by the German Real Estate firm Fundus.

Different Owners / Management

The Hotel is managed by the Kempinski Luxury Hotel organisation which has a lease until 2016. you can add info here ...

In 1932 Greta Garbo´s 'Grand Hotel'

In 1996 Percy Adlon, great grandson of the Hotel founder Lorenz Adlon made the documentary "The Glamorous World of the Hotel Adlon".
